Why dive in Anilao?

For any avid scuba diver Anilao is an absolute must dive, hotspot. Whatever your scuba diving preference, Anilao will probably have it in spades – from reefs and diverse marine life to intriguing critters and incredible underwater photography opportunities, Anilao will leave you spellbound. Once you’ve visited Anilao, you’ll be counting the days until your return trip!

Anilao is world famous for its rare and unusual marine life which often seems to be posing to have its picture taken – it’s no wonder that so many award winning images have been taken at some of Anilao’s multitude of dive sites.

Did we mention the nudibranch yet? If these colourful “jewels of the ocean” are one of your favourite critters, you may well need to add some extra pages to your logbook! Colourfulflabellina’s and adorable Chromodoris are dotted around almost every dive site.

Almost every type of cephalopod and crustacean can be encountered at some point during your trip and frogfish, sting rays and moray eels are seen on dive after dive. To list just a few of the most iconic macro species which can be found here, how about bluering octopus, hairy frogfish, seahorses, rhinopias and bobbit worms? We’re not trying to show off – our critters do that for us!

If macro, muck and critters are not your bag that’s not all that’s on offer. Anilao reefs are a healthy, vibrant mix of hard and soft corals. You’ll find every type of tropical reef fish you would expect from diving the Philippines including juveniles and a few more besides. Wide angle photographers will find the reefs of Anilao offer colours that are easily caught on camera – especially sites such as Sombrero Island which boasts prolific soft corals. Whichever reef site you are diving at you’ll find no shortage of  stunning subjects to fill the frame. Anilao is truly an underwater photographer or marine enthusiasts paradise.

If you’re a big fish aficionado there are options too. Dive sites such as the world class Mainit Point are adrenaline pumping dives with chances to see barracuda, jacks, schooling fish and occasional sharks.
